What is a Flex Fuel Sensor?

Flex Fuel Sensors calculate the percentage of Ethanol to Gasoline in a vehicles fuel tank and communicates the percentage to your ECU, which adjusts the timing of the engine to achieve optimal performance and fuel mileage.

 

Where is the Flex Fuel Sensor located. What does it look like?

Located on the passenger side of the vehicle, the Flex Fuel Sensor is on the front frame rail –right behind the wheel well. With one (1) power connector, the sensorhas two (2) fuel lines exiting the sensor at the top.  Please see the image above for or click here for an image.

Will a failing Flex Fuel Sensor cause my check engine light to light up?

Yes, common trouble codes your technician will find with a failing Flex Fuel Sensor:

•P0178 and P0179 are directly related to the sensor itself

•P0178 -Fuel Composition Sensor, Sensor Circuit Low Volts
